NCCR SPIN POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

The Swiss national center, NCCR SPIN at the University of Basel, Switzerland, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow Position to start in 2024. The center seeks to attract an outstanding young talent in condensed matter theory to engage in cutting-edge projects in the field of quantum computing broadly defined involving research groups within the NCCR SPIN. The ideal NCCR Fellow has just finished a PhD in theoretical physics (or related areas), is of the highest caliber of intellectual achievement, and is eager to shape the academic environment in research. The Fellow will be appointed for three years at the home institution of the NCCR, University of Basel, and will be selected by the NCCR selection committee on the basis of scientific excellence demonstrated at an early-career stage, as well as quality and creativity of the proposed research in theNCCR SPIN target areas. The Fellow enjoys full independence in selection and focus of research direction within the NCCR throughout their three-year fellowship term. Areas of research include quantum information processing in a broad sense (quantum computing and quantum simulation), preferably with spins but also other qubit platforms are of interest, complex quantum systems, topological systems, quantum materials, and other emerging topics in quantum science.

The NCCR SPIN at the University of Basel is a national program with many partner universities and institutions such as IBM Zurich, ETH Zurich, EPF Lausanne, and University of Konstanz.

The NCCR SPIN is a dedicated 12-year initiative to foster and educate outstanding young scientists to provide the academic talent and technology skills for the rapidly developing field of quantum information science. Applications contain the candidate’s CV and a short (up to two pages) research statement describing the studies they would like to pursue while a Fellow. Furthermore, candidates are requested to arrange for two confidential letters of reference, which need to bear the author’s institutional letterhead and (digital) signature. Applications and letters shall be submitted online, via https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/27103

Women and minority scientists are particularly encouraged to apply.

The application deadline is March 30, 2024. Applications will continue to be accepted and evaluated until the positions are filled. For information, please visit https://www.nccr-spin.ch/ or contact the NCCR co-directors, Profs. Jelena Klinovaja (jelena.klinovaja@unibas.ch) or Daniel Loss (daniel.loss@unibas.ch).
